Everything suggests that this family originated in Staffordshire. I later found traces of them in London and then in Jamaica.

The earliest records I have found so far date from Jamaica around 1768.

Through marriages and inheritances, several members of these families became relatively wealthy. Following the abolition of slavery in the British Empire, compensation payments were granted to slave owners for the loss of enslaved people.

During the 18th century, some members of the family returned from Jamaica to England before eventually reaching Boulogne-sur-Mer. In 1854, most of the family settled permanently in England, while only one person — my great-grandmother — came to live in France in 1873.
