The Will-o’-the-Wisps

Before Jamaica, many uncertainties remain. The records become more fragmented and the family lines more difficult to follow. Some names, such as Morlay, Shurter and Fowall, appear only briefly before disappearing again from the documents. They pass through the family story like shadows: a birth, a marriage, or a few lines in a register, and then nothing more. It is with their arrival in Jamaica that several of these families begin to emerge more clearly from the archives.
