Roe

John Roe, a military assistant surgeon, appears in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1805.

From 1815 to 1819, he owned the Belgar plantation in Saint Thomas in the Vale parish, which was later incorporated into Saint Catherine Parish.

From 1816 to 1826, he was co-owner of the Caenwood Estate in Saint George Parish with his father-in-law, John Meek. Following the latter’s death, he became the sole owner until his departure for France.

In the 1817 Almanac, I discovered that he was one of the physicians attached to Kingston Prison. He was also involved in vaccination work and practised at the public hospital.

In 1835, he emigrated to France and purchased a property in Saint-Martin-Boulogne, near Boulogne-sur-Mer. His daughter, his son-in-law, and the latter’s parents also settled in the area.

He died in Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1850 at the age of 76. His wife, daughter, and granddaughter later returned to England.
