French archives are freely accessible and easy to consult, allowing me to trace this branch back to the 17th century.

Many members of the family were fishermen along the Yonne River. Some moved to Paris, while others travelled north in search of new opportunities.

My direct ancestor chose a different path, leaving fishing behind to become a locksmith. He settled first in Saint-Omer, in Pas-de-Calais, and later in Calais, where I was born.
